Making paint with old make up. Pinturas con maquillaje viejo.

A few weeks ago I helped my daughter cleaning up her bedroom; specially getting rid of stuff she doesn’t use anymore. We found a kid’s make up set somebody gave her years ago so we decided to get rid of it as it was expired.

She felt guilty for throwing away something that she barely used, so I told her we were going to do something with it.

Hace unas semanas ayudé a mi hija a limpiar su habitación; nos queríamos deshacer de cosas que no usa más y encontramos un set de maquillaje de niña que alguien le regaló hace tiempo, y como ya estaba vencido había que tirarlo.

Dani se sentía culpable por tirar algo que apenas había usado, así que le dije que íbamos a hacer algo con ellos.

  

We enjoyed making “paint” with them. It was easy, crush the eye-shadows, spray some water, mix with gel medium, and keep in a closed container.

She also helped me making a slideshow to show you what we did.

Disfrutamos haciendo "pintura" . Fue muy fácil, trituramos las sombras de ojos, rociamos un poco de agua, mezclamos con gel medium, y guardarmos en  recipientes cerrados.

Dani también me ayudó a hacer una presentación de diapositivas para mostrar lo que hicimos.

Here is the card I made using our paint. I finger painted the circles and doodled some lines to imitate flowers.

Aquí está la tarjeta que hice usando nuestra pintura. Usé mis dedos para pintar los círculos y dibujé lineas tipo doodles para imitar flores.

After my flowers were done I distressed the edges of my focal panel with black ink, and hand stitched some details with black thread to give it some texture. I white heat embossed the sentiment on black cardstock. I found a gorgeous patterned paper for my background and mounted the panel using some foam to add dimension to the card.

Después que las flores estaban listas hice un poco de distress en los bordes del panel central con tinta negra, y cosí a mano algunos detalles con hilo negro para darle un poco de textura. Para el mensaje hice emboss con polvos blancos sobre cartulina negra. Para el fondo utilicé un lindo papel decorado y monté el panel usando un poco de goma eva para darle dimensión a la tarjeta.

Watercolor Smooching card sets

I made 2 card sets using the famous “smooching technique” that Laura Bassen loves so much, lately I’m loving her work more than ever and I enjoy her videos so much, they are full of inspiration and they are so funny…love her! 

Hice 2 sets de tarjetas usando la famosa técnica de “smooching" que Laura Bassen ama tanto, últimamente me encanta su trabajo más que nunca y disfruto sus videos tanto, están llenos de inspiración y son tan divertidos y graciosos ... me encanta!

I made the backgrounds using Distress Inks, a piece of acetate and water. First I inked the acetate with one color, sprayed some water and the pressed it against the paper in different areas. The ‘smooching technique” is awesome, you get to see how the color is smooching against the paper. When it was dried I added a different color with the same process. 

Hice los fondos con tintas Distress, un pedazo de acetato y agua. En primer lugar coloqué tinta en el acetato con un color, pulvericé un poco de agua y lo presioné contra el papel en diferentes áreas. La técnica de “smooching" es impresionante, se llega a ver cómo el color se “apretuja” contra el papel. Cuando se secó añadí un color diferente con el mismo proceso.

For this set I die cut the sentiment on the background and also cut 2 extra on white cardstock, I layer the die cuts to give some dimension to the sentiment and put on top the one cut out of the background, then added a few sequins. I also used a clear Wink of Stella on the letters to give them some shine. 

Para este set corté el mensaje con un troquel directamente del fondo que había creado, y también corté 2 extra en cartulina blanca, pegué los troquelados en un par de capas para dar dimensión a las letras, y pegué unas cuantas lentejuelas. También usé Clear Wink of Stella en las letras para darles un poco de brillo.

On the other set I followed the same process but I did not layer the sentiment, I die cut it and used a Distress Marker (using the predominant color of the background) to lightly define the border of all letters. Then I lay the word back in it place, it doesn’t have dimension but the letters pop out a little. I also used a clear Wink of Stella on the letters and added sequins. 

En el otro set seguí el mismo proceso pero no le agregué capas a las letras, luego de troquelarlas  usé un rotulador Distress (utilizando el color predominante del fondo) para definir ligeramente los bordes de todas las letras. Luego puse la palabra de nuevo en su lugar, quedan sin dimensión, pero las letras resaltan un poco. También usé Clear Wink of Stella en las letras y algunas lentejuelas.

Watercolor and liquid masking. Blog hop

A few months ago I saw a card made by Shari Carroll and wanted to try something similar. I didn't have the same stamps she used so I drew my flowers. I also tried liquid masking to watercolour the background.
I thought these cards would go great with the Preety Pink Posh blog hop.
Hace algunos meses vi una tarjeta hecha por Shari Carroll y quise hacer algo similar.  Como no tenía los mismos sellos dibujé las flores. También probé liquid mask para hacer el fondo con acuarelas.
Creo que estas tarjetas van muy bien con el Blog hop que Pretty Pink Posh está haciendo.

Girls basketball team gift

My daughter’s basketball team wanted to give a special present to one of the girls who had her first communion. Someone had the great idea to give her a photo of the whole team with their coach and I volunteered to print it and wrap it. I couldn’t resist to decorate it “a little”….

I got the team to sign it to make it even more meaningful.

El equipo de baloncesto de mi hija quería hacerle un regalo especial a una de sus compañeras, que las invitó a su primera comunión. Alguien tuvo la gran idea de darle una foto de todo el equipo con su entrenador y me ofrecí como voluntaria para imprimirla y envolverla. No pude resistirme a decorarla "un poco" ....

Le agregamos la firma de todo el equipo para que fuera aún más significativo.

First Communion Cards

My daughter was invited to two first communion during the month of May. She was very excited and wanted to give them a special card made by mom. At first I thought I was going to have a hard time but I ended up making 4 cards that I liked. That are very similar as I used the same materials but I was experimenting with different textures and compositions. 

My daughter was proud of the cards but had a hard time choosing one for each friend, she liked them all. I’m happy I was up to her standards as she is my most important fan.

Her friends were happy too, it’s so nice to receive something hand made these days…

 Mi hija fue invitada a dos primeras comuniones durante el mes de mayo. Ella estaba muy emocionada y quería darles una tarjeta especial hecha por mamá. Al principio pensé que iba a ser bastante difícil pero terminé haciendo 4 tarjetas que me gustaron. Todas son similares porque utilicé los mismos materiales, estaba experimentando con diferentes texturas y composiciones.

Mi hija estaba orgullosa de las tarjetas, y se le hizo muy difícil elegir una para cada amiga, porque le gustaron las 4. Estoy feliz de haber llenado sus expectativas ya que ella es mi fan más importante.

Sus amigas estaban felices también, es tan agradable recibir algo hecho a mano en estos días ...

Cousins Wall decor for Mother’s day

For mother’s day we decided to give my mom a picture of the 3 grandchildren that she could hang on the wall, she moved to a new place and this would be the perfect gift for her. I didn’t have much time and couldn’t get the best pictures, I wanted them to be as updated as possible but my niece was not in the city, so I had to use the lasts photos I took of them together. They worked well but some were a bit dark.

Para el día de la madre decidimos darle a mi mamá un cuadro con los 3 nietos, se mudó a un nuevo piso y cuadro me pareció que sería el regalo perfecto. No tenía mucho tiempo y no pudimos conseguir las mejores fotos, yo quería que fueran lo más actuales posible, pero mi sobrina no estaba en la ciudad, así que tuve que usar las últimas fotos que tomé de ellos juntos. Las fotos no están mal pero algunas están un poco oscuras.

I just took some patterned papers and embellishments from the same set so I didn’t have to waste time matching colors and patterns. I die cut a few butterflies and the letters for the sentiment.

Simplemente utilicé papeles dibujados y adornos de un mismo set para no perder tiempo escogiendo colores y estampados que combinaran. Troquelé unas mariposas y las letras para el título.

My kids gave me some opinions on colors and embellishments, I wanted them to feel part of the making process.

Mis hijos me dieron algunas opiniones sobre los colores y los adornos, quería que se sintieran parte del proceso.

It consists on three panels that belong in the same frame, but I didn’t take pictures of the whole thing framed, we were in a big rush when I finished. I used one of the ikea frames, this one comes with some nature photos that I covered with my layouts. I unassembled it by carefully removing the staples on the back, then adhered the three panels and put the backing in its place using a heavy duty stapler.

El cuadro consiste en tres paneles que pertenecen al mismo marco, pero no pude tomarle fotografías porque estábamos en un gran apuro cuando terminé. He utilizado una de las cuadros de ikea, éste viene con algunas fotos de la naturaleza que cubrí con mis páginas de scrap. Lo desarmé quitando cuidadosamente las grapas la parte trasera, luego adherí los tres paneles y volví a poner el respaldo en su lugar con una grapadora para trabajo pesado.
