Mixed Media Album with process video

After taking Ana Bondu´s workshops last February I wanted to keep creating, my hands were ready to get really inky (or painty, or gluey)
Después de tomar los talleres de Ana Bondu en febrero quedé con muchas ganas de seguir creando, mis estaban listas para llenarse de tinta, o pintura...o pegamento...

For a while I´ve been telling myself I need to use what I have, there are so many great new products and new collections, and I always fall in love with everything (I know I'm not alone on this :) but I can't keep buying stuff...So when I sat to make something, I found some old pictures I wanted scrap, and found some old mini album kits, that I´ve had for around 10 years waiting to the "perfect" occasion to use them. So the decision was made, some pictures of my kiddos playing with their cousins and a kit with different materials for the album pages and rings.
Then I worked with what I had on hand, actually what I had on my desk from my previous projects.
I worked over several days as I had little time, but I was able to make a video to show the process of how I work.
Llevo ya tiempo diciéndome a mi misma que tengo que usar los materiales que tengo, hay tantos productos nuevos y colecciones, y siempre me enamoro de todas (sé que no estoy sola en esto :) pero no puedo seguir comprando y comprando. Así que cuando me senté a crear algo, encontré algunas fotos que había impreso para scrapear, y también encontré unos kits de mini albums que he tenidos guardados durante unos 10 años esperando el momento "perfecto" para usarlos. Así que la decisión estuvo fácil, las fotos de mis peques jugando con sus primos y el kit con páginas de diferentes materiales y anillos para hacer un álbum.
Luego trabajé con lo que tenía a la mano, realmente con lo que tenía en mi mesa de proyectos anteriores. Trabajé durante varios días porque no tenía mucho tiempo, pero pude ir grabando videos para poder mostrar el proceso de cómo trabajo.

Ana Bondu Workshop in Madrid

 I had the pleasure of attending Ana Bondu´s workshops at Komola Krafts in Madrid. It was a weekend full of techniques, colors, paints, inks, wonderful people and lots of fun.
Tuve el placer de asistir a los talleres de Ana Bondu en Komola Krafts, en Madrid. Fue un fin de semana lleno de técnicas, colores, pinturas, tintas, gente maravillosa y mucha diversión.

Ana demonstrated different ways of using the Gelli Plate with paints and inks, masks and textured materials. Then we worked with Brushos and different techniques on how to get the most out of them. We spent the whole day on Saturday trying everything out, so we made hundreds of gorgeous backgrounds.
Ana hizo demostraciones de diferentes formas de usar la Gelli Plate con pinturas, tintas, stencils, y materiales con texturas. Luego trabajamos con Brushos y diferentes técnicas para sacarles el mejor provecho. Pasamos el sábado entero probando todo, así que hicimos cientos de fondos espectaculares.

On Sunday we worked on a beautiful book made from scratch, we put in practice many of the techniques we worked on the previous day plus a few more ideas she gave us on the way.
El domingo trabajamos en un libro que hicimos desde cero, pusimos en práctica muchas de las técnicas que habíamos trabajado el día anterior más unas ideas que ella nos fue dando durante el día.

The girls at Komola were wonderful, everything was perfectly set for us to work comfortably and in a cosy environment, and with delicious meals and snacks...and of course coffee at all times. Thank you girls!
Las chicas de Komola fueron maravillosas, todo estuvo preparado perfectamente para trabajar cómodas y en un ambiente muy agradable, y con comidas y meriendas muy ricas...y por supuesto, cafecito a toda hora ¡Gracias chicas!

Making paint with old make up. Pinturas con maquillaje viejo.

A few weeks ago I helped my daughter cleaning up her bedroom; specially getting rid of stuff she doesn’t use anymore. We found a kid’s make up set somebody gave her years ago so we decided to get rid of it as it was expired.

She felt guilty for throwing away something that she barely used, so I told her we were going to do something with it.

Hace unas semanas ayudé a mi hija a limpiar su habitación; nos queríamos deshacer de cosas que no usa más y encontramos un set de maquillaje de niña que alguien le regaló hace tiempo, y como ya estaba vencido había que tirarlo.

Dani se sentía culpable por tirar algo que apenas había usado, así que le dije que íbamos a hacer algo con ellos.

  

We enjoyed making “paint” with them. It was easy, crush the eye-shadows, spray some water, mix with gel medium, and keep in a closed container.

She also helped me making a slideshow to show you what we did.

Disfrutamos haciendo "pintura" . Fue muy fácil, trituramos las sombras de ojos, rociamos un poco de agua, mezclamos con gel medium, y guardarmos en  recipientes cerrados.

Dani también me ayudó a hacer una presentación de diapositivas para mostrar lo que hicimos.

Here is the card I made using our paint. I finger painted the circles and doodled some lines to imitate flowers.

Aquí está la tarjeta que hice usando nuestra pintura. Usé mis dedos para pintar los círculos y dibujé lineas tipo doodles para imitar flores.

After my flowers were done I distressed the edges of my focal panel with black ink, and hand stitched some details with black thread to give it some texture. I white heat embossed the sentiment on black cardstock. I found a gorgeous patterned paper for my background and mounted the panel using some foam to add dimension to the card.

Después que las flores estaban listas hice un poco de distress en los bordes del panel central con tinta negra, y cosí a mano algunos detalles con hilo negro para darle un poco de textura. Para el mensaje hice emboss con polvos blancos sobre cartulina negra. Para el fondo utilicé un lindo papel decorado y monté el panel usando un poco de goma eva para darle dimensión a la tarjeta.

40 things we love about you

Today is my husband's 40th birthday. My kids and I wanted to make something extra special for him. He's away right now so we mailed his present a few days ago to his colleague so he could receive it exactly today. 

Hoy es el cumpleaños número 40 de mi marido. Mis hijos y yo queríamos hacerle algo muy especial. Él está lejos en este momento, así que le enviamos por correo el regalo hace unos días a su colega, para que lo pudiera recibir hoy.

We made a chart where we wrote 40 things we love about him. So my daughter wrote 10 things, my son wrote 10 more, I wrote 10 and we all agreed on 10 more that were common to all.

Hicimos una especie de cuadro donde  escribimos 40 cosas que nos encantan de él. Así que mi hija escribió 10 cosas, mi hijo escribió 10 más , yo escribí 10 y todos estuvimos de acuerdo en 10 más que eran comunes a todos.

I love the handwriting and decorations the kids added to their list. He's going to love it!

Me encanta la escritura a mano y decoraciones que los niños agregaron a sus listas. A mi marido le va a encantar!

I used a paper pad from We R Memory Keepers, called Down the boardwalk, to make it easy when matching colors, I chose the more masculine ones.  

He utilizado una colección de papeles estampados, de We R Memory Keepers,  llamada “Down the boardwalk” para hacer más fácil la combinación de colores, elegí los que eran un poco más masculinos.

I cut my base a bit smaller than a letter size paper so I could put it in an envelope to mail it. Then cut the covers of the "notebooks" and distressed the edges a bit with distress inks.

Corté mi base un poco más pequeña que una hoja tamaño carta para que pudiera ponerlo en un sobre para enviarlo. Luego, corté las portadas de los "cuadernos " y le puse un poco de tinta Distress Inks a los bordes.

I white heat embossed the title and names on the covers of each notebook using a mixture of stamp sets.

El titulo y los nombres de las cubiertas de los cuadernillos los hice con embossing de color blanco. Los hice con una mezcla de sellos.

For the words "love" and "you" I used a special stamp set from Hero Arts, Epic Love, and masked some parts of the stamps to get only what I needed.

Para las palabras "love" y "you" usé un set de sellos muy especial: Hero Arts Epic Love;  tuve que cubrir algunas partes de los sellos para sellar sólo lo que necesitaba.

I made 4 little notebooks for each 10 things list. So we could write our 40 things we love about him, one per page. I hand-stitched  each notebook to embellish them a bit.

Hice 4 pequeños cuadernos para cada lista de 10 cosas . Así podríamos escribir nuestras 40 cosas que nos encantan de él , una por página. Le agregué un detalle de cosido a mano a cada cuadernillo.

Then I glued down the little notebooks and punched two holes on the top... Added a couple of eyelets and ribbon. And voila!

Luego pegué los cuadernillos e hice dos agujeros en la parte superior... He añadido un par de ojales y las cintas. Y voilá!
